Since 1931, the Elks National Foundation Scholarship has been dedicated to helping students achieve their academic aspirations. Annually, they award more than $3 million in college scholarships to at least 800 exceptional, service-minded high school seniors.

 

How does the Elks National Foundation Scholarship work?

The Elks National Foundation Most Valuable Student scholarship contest is open to all high school seniors who are U.S. citizens. Applicants must progress through local, district, and state levels to qualify for the national competition. The top national finalists will be chosen to attend a Leadership Weekend, held in Chicago, IL. From there, the Elks National Foundation will award 500 prestigious, four-year scholarships to the highest-rated applicants in the competition.

Each award is intended to cover a significant share of the student’s educational expenses – including tuition, living expenses, books and required fees. Awards vary by individual, based on the cost of tuition as well as other grants or scholarships he or she may receive.

Applicants of Elks National Foundation Scholarship are judged on their scholarship and leadership abilities. Each year, 500 scholarships are given out across the country, with award amounts (over four years) ranging from $4,000 to $50,000. Applications must be submitted to the Elk Lodge closest to your home address, so make sure to research the Elk Lodges in your area before you apply.

The Elks National Foundation Scholarship Program offers the following benefits to recipients:

• The Elks National Foundation will award 500 four-year scholarships to the highest-rated applicants in the 2024 competition.
• Most Valuable Student scholarships range from $1,000 per year to $12,500 per year. These scholarships are intended for students pursuing a four-year degree on a full-time basis (minimum of 12 semester hours) at a U.S. college or university. All scholarships are provided in the form of certificates of award, contingent upon the winner’s full-time enrollment in an accredited U.S. college or university.
• The Chicago office of the Elks National Foundation will announce the 500 national winners in late April 2024.

(Note: Local Lodges, districts, and state Elks associations may also award scholarships through this program, but these scholarships are separate from the 500 Elks National Foundation Most Valuable Student Scholarships.)

• High School Graduates: High school graduates are not eligible to apply.
• Citizenship Requirement: Applicants must be citizens of the United States on the date their applications are submitted; permanent legal resident status does not qualify.
